Is there any reason to upgrade Stronghold higher than level 1?
What are the benefits?

Good question! And I cannot remember the benefits of upgrading a stronghold.

There isn't much benefit (that I know of(and im eternally flawed so the risk is yours  )) in upgrading your SH. past lvl 1

Nope, no real benefit that I know of either. You used to be able to catapult them so I guess that was the original reason for making them upgradable past SH.
